Dwight Howard plays NBA Jam on Manhattan sidewalk

First things first. I want to apologize for my ignorance of all thing sports related. I was headed to work this morning, running late as usual, when I exited the subway station at 36th Street and 6th Avenue and  saw a small crowd gathered on the sidewalk and spilling onto the street. Across the street, on the sidewalk,  I spotted an extremely tall guy playing a video game. Strange you ask? No, not really for Manhattan, but my curiosity made me cross the street to find out what the fuss was all about. The photographer in me immediately pulled out my camera and started snapping shots of this gentleman who was being filmed while playing an NBA Jam video game.

After I was pleased with the number of shots that I’d gotten and I was sufficiently late for work, I turned and asked a gentleman in the crowd, “So who is this guy anyway?”. Well, the guy looked at me like I was from Mars and said, “Orlando Magic!!??” “Oh, ok”, I thought to myself, “what an odd name, I wonder if he’s related to Magic Johnson?”. Then the guy exclaimed, “you know, Dwight Howard!”.  “Oh, he has two names”, I thought to myself. I thanked the guy for the information and headed off to work and began googling Orlando Magic and Dwight Howard and that was when I found out that Dwight Howard is a basketball player for Orlando Magic (an epiphany of sports trivia).

Dwight was at the NBA store in Manhattan yesterday donning a new design of the Orlando Magic jersey and hawking limited edition versions of the new jersey for a mere $350 a pop.   I have tried to find out why he was playing video games on the sidewalk, and I have come up with nothing so far. But I did get a few good shots of the NBA superstar!
